Short Courses

A short course is a new type of curriculum component being developed by NCCA. The idea of introducing short courses is to offer learners wider curriculum choices at senior cycle and to offer schools greater flexibility in developing a senior cycle curriculum that meets the needs of all students.

Short courses are being developed as 90-hour optional courses, in other words half the length of a Leaving Certificate subject. It is proposed that they would be examined by the State Examinations Commission at Ordinary and Higher levels and therefore recognised in the same way as subjects. More information on the development of short courses can be found here.
